By September 2022, WFP had reached 210,000 beneficiaries in states where the school meals program is implemented.
While the school was closed for the holiday period, most beneficiaries received a double ration in August to cover their nutritional needs until the end of September.
In September, WFP distributed an additional 8,700 food baskets to 43 new school communities on the Araya Peninsula in Sucre State.
In Delta Amacuro State, WFP trained cooperating partners on key aspects of humanitarian principles and access. In Barinas, cooperating partners were trained in school kitchen renovation activities, in preparation for the transition to on-site school meals.
In Falcon, WFP and its partners finalized infrastructure plans for the rehabilitation of 125 school kitchens. Renovation work will begin in October.
WFP signed a total of 15 field agreements with local non-governmental organizations, of which 12 were already working with WFP and three were new (ACTED, Hebrew Immigrant Aid Society and Un Techo para mi país Venezuela).
In collaboration with the National Organization for Civil Protection and Disaster Management, the Logistics Cluster has trained civil protection agents on Emergency Response Logistics, in order to strengthen the capacities of public institutions. This effort was coupled with workshops organized by the Food Security Cluster to introduce the Sphere methodology to apply humanitarian principles in food assistance.
