Two senior management appointments at Adam Handling Restaurant Group
By Denis Sheehan, Editor, H&C News: Two senior management appointments at Adam Handling Restaurant Group.
Chef-owner Adam Handling has announced two new senior management appointments at the Adam Handling restaurant group. George Hersey, previously group chief executive, as restaurant manager and Andy Downton as operations manager.
George Hersey has been promoted to restaurant manager, after spending more than a year as group general manager. He initially joined the group in 2018 as Managing Director of Handling sites in East London, before taking responsibility for all Handling sites in London as Group Managing Director. He was instrumental in opening Adam’s first locations outside of London, leading the opening team for The Loch & The Tyne and Ugly Butterfly, and was also instrumental in securing The Loch & The Tyne at number 27 (and highest new entry) in the Top 50 Gastro Pubs. Hersey is at the forefront of corporate sustainability efforts across the group and is a strong advocate for sustainability across the industry.
Andy Downton joins the group as Chief Operating Officer, bringing a wealth of experience from his time as Chief Operating Officer and Managing Director. He has worked with some of the UK’s leading restaurateurs and hotel operators, including as Managing Director of City Social and Restaurant Manager with Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s. Downton has long admired the Adam Handling group of restaurants and, working together on the Young Chef Young Waiter competition, Adam and Andy have had the opportunity to get to know each other better. Andy’s role will be to help grow the group, reporting directly to Executive Director Nicola Gartenberg and Adam.
Adam Handling said: “I couldn’t be happier to announce the appointments of George and Andy. 2021 has been an extremely exciting year for the band with the opening of two new venues, The Loch & The Tyne in Old Windsor and Ugly Butterfly in St. Ives, Cornwall and as always my band’s progress plans are extremely exciting. This step forward is only the beginning. They share my vision for the future and the expansion of the group and are both extremely talented.
