Mansfield, Connecticut October 13, 2022 – Mansfield Public Schools Superintendent Peter Dart announced that Maraiah Popeleski-Tilley has been selected as Director of Food Services for Mansfield Public Schools. She will oversee the management of meal services at Mansfield Middle School, both Mansfield Elementary School campuses, and Edwin O. Smith High School in Region 19.

Ms. Popeleski-Tilley is a chef and registered dietitian and has practiced food service management and nutrition counseling and education during her career. A graduate of Johnson & Wales University in Culinary Nutrition, Maraiah was Director of Nutrition Services for TVCCA, Inc. headquartered in Bozrah, CT, providing daily meals to 1,500 seniors and children. She has also worked as Director of Food Services at Colebrook Village in Hebron, an elderly community, and as Nutritionist and Women-Infants-Child (WIC) Care Manager at Middlesex Hospital in Middletown, CT.

A resident of Mansfield, Ms. Popeleski-Tilley was also the first Executive Director of CLiCK and has been recognized by Connecticut Magazine for his work with this not-for-profit licensed kitchen business incubator in Windham. Most recently, she was Operations Manager for NOJ Marketplace and Kitchen in Willimantic, where she transformed fresh, locally grown produce into menu items. Additional food industry experience includes marketing work for CT’s SYSCO Food Services. A former board member of the Northeast Organic Farming Association, Maraiah has long been active in the local food movement.

“We know our families rely on our school kitchens to provide fresh, healthy food and expand students’ dining experiences as global citizens,” said Superintendent Peter Dart. “All of our staff are educators at Mansfield, and Maraiah’s experience is a good fit for our school community. Providing innovative foods is part of our goal to support the whole child. We are also happy to find a director who has an entrepreneurial sensibility focused on local foods and farms. I am confident that Maraiah will combine competent management and creative thinking in our food service. We are delighted to have him on the team.
