Thanks For Farming Tour raises over $11,000 for Central Station – PembinaValleyOnline.com

Organizers were delighted to be part of the Thanks For Farming tour held Wednesday and Thursday in Winkler at the Meridian Exhibition Centre.

Jeremy Matuszewski is a member of the organizing committee.

“It was so cool to host an event in our hometown and see so many local businesses join us as exhibitors and speak to farmers from all over Manitoba. Over 500 people came to the event over the two days,” he said. “The Meridian Expo Center was a fantastic facility. It even got us thinking about having our event in Winkler and the town of Winkler bent over backwards for us. Their staff was amazing.”

Speakers covered topics ranging from grain marketing, agricultural transition and mental health. There was also a lot of laughs with the afternoon presentation.

All proceeds from the event went to Central Station which ran the catering services over the two days.

Matuszewski says they were thrilled to present a check for $11,112.50 to the nonprofit.

“It’s so valuable,” commented Bev Wiebe, executive director of Central Station. “We rely heavily on the community to support our programming, not only in financial dollars but also in volunteers, we have hundreds of volunteers. Just to have this opportunity to be connected to the community and to connect with other people who may not have ‘I haven’t heard of what we do. Very, very valuable. Very grateful to the Thanks For Farming Tour for choosing us as their charity of choice.

Wiebe said they were still calculating the extra funds raised from the Seafood Boil held Wednesday night, noting they received about $12,000 in sponsorships plus ticket sales.

Funds raised will go towards general operating expenses.
