Qatar Airways recruitment campaign in Mumbai attracts huge crowd and applicants are fired

The airline was hosting an open recruitment event at the Hilton Mumbai.

Qatar Airways is currently undergoing a global recruitment campaign, which the company describes as “the biggest talent acquisition in the history of the aviation industry”. Qatar Airways, in particular, is recruiting a “substantial number of new Indian professionals to support its global operations” in a range of areas, according to a report by Spring Field Gazette.

These recruitment positions include those of Qatar Airways, Qatar Duty Free, Qatar Aviation Services and others. The reason for this recruitment campaign is not only because the demand for world travel is increasing, but also because Qatar is preparing to host the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

As part of this strategy, the airline was holding an open recruitment event at the Hilton Mumbai on September 29-30, 2022. Several videos and images have emerged on social media that show people queuing outside the hotel in Mumbai.

People on social media called it the “longest job interview queue”. Long queues were seen outside the hotel for the Qatar Airways walk-in interview. Due to the massive crowd, the airline had to turn away many applicants.

The wild job fair was even called a chaos. “The queues were so long you would assume it was the biggest Black Friday deal ever. People had to be turned away which obviously irritated a number of people who had browsed long distances to attend this event,” the outlet added.

As cited by the Spring Field GazzeteQatar Airways CEO Akbar Al Baker said the Doha-based airline had no problem hiring pilots in mid-2022, saying the company had received more than 20,000 applications for just 700 positions , with all applicants qualified and scored.

Qatar Airways Group announced in a statement that the company began accepting applications from Indian residents for various positions across all divisions on September 16, 2022.

The group intended to employ a large number of people in a variety of areas including culinary, corporate and commercial, management, freight, customer service, engineering, flight operations, ground services, safety and security, digital, front desk , administration, as well as sales and finance.

In India, the group intends to hire staff for its many businesses, including Qatar Airways, Qatar Duty-Free, Qatar Aviation Services, Qatar Airways Catering Company and Qatar Distribution Company, as well as Dhiafatina Hotels.
