New Gaia Health Store opening in Southampton

A NEW health store full of organic and vegan products has opened in Southampton.

Tucked away in Carlton Place, Gaia Health Store officially welcomed customers after two months of preparations.

It was born out of husband and wife duo Andre and Emma Moreira’s passion for sustainability and health.

Andre said: “The store opening is definitely a positive for Southampton. The weekend [we opened] was very successful and amazing. We were extremely busy. Everyone came here and the store was packed. I feel like we are already succeeding.

“I came to the UK 20 years ago in 2002 when I was trying to make a fortune and looking for a better life.

“I had the idea in mind to open a business one day, but this store is not what I had in mind.

“My background is in hotels and restaurants, never in health and well-being.

“Emma worked in this industry, so we put our two passions together.”

The store’s products range from store cabinet products to refrigerated and household items.

There’s a selection of dried whole foods, including pasta and rice, a range of teas, organic cold drinks, and vegan items, like oatmeal cream and crème fraîche.

The store, which opened on February 12, also has two refill stations – one for personal care, laundry and cleaning products and another for whole dried foods including oats, muesli, pasta, chocolate covered nuts and more.

Customers can bring their own bottles and containers, but paper bags are on hand for those wishing to take advantage of the dry food refueling station.

Andre, from Portugal, added: “We try to be natural and ethical – everything is organic.

“I’m still a bit out of my comfort zone with the products, but I’m very happy to have the shop and my own space where I can pretty much make the decisions. The idea is to expand wherever I I will probably wait two to three years, and if it succeeds, I would like to repeat it elsewhere.

“We would like to expand to West End, Hedge End and the outskirts of Southampton. My idea is to create a brand.
