Job maintenance grants to be paid to the events industry, travel agencies and nightclubs
ZAGREB, September 2, 2021 – Prime Minister Andrej Plenković said on Thursday that job retention allowances of HRK 4,000 per employee for the month of August would remain in place for the restaurant industry, industry events, passenger transport and travel agencies.
The grants will go in September to the events industry, travel agencies and nightclubs, he said, recalling the easing of anti-epidemic measures from September 1.
All other companies are more or less returning to normal, he said, adding that should the need for subsidies arise in other sectors, the authorities will look into the matter.
The shortened working week measure remains in effect until the end of this year and covers up to 90% of wages including contributions, Plenković said.
The government is on the verge of switching from job retention measures to job creation measures, according to which employment programs will be boosted by HRK 500 million and, in 2022, the allocation for this purpose. will be 1.5 billion HRK, he added.
HRK 18 billion for job retention measures, contributions
Job retention programs, including wage and contribution programs, cost HRK 18 billion, Plenković said.
Almost one in two jobs was covered by the schemes, ie 700,000 out of 1.59 million, and 92% of companies operating in Croatia were covered.
As a result, there are now 52,000 more employees in Croatia than in the corresponding period of 2020, and 6,000 more than in the corresponding period of 2019, the Prime Minister said.
In addition, there are 9,000 fewer unemployed compared to March 2020, just before the outbreak of the pandemic in Croatia, he added.
