Indian Railways’ Western Railway (WR) area has decided to resume on-board catering services with cooked meals as well as ready-to-eat meals on the Western Railway Shatabdi Express and a Duronto Express train for added convenience. and for the benefit of passengers traveling on these trains.

According to a press release by Western Railway, on-board catering will resume on train No.12009/10 Mumbai Central – Ahmedabad – Mumbai Central Shatabdi Express and train No.22209/10 Mumbai Central – New Delhi – Mumbai Central Duronto Express with effect from December 10. Passengers have the option to opt out of catering services for travel dates from December 10.

The railways had already issued an order in this regard to all relevant departments and stakeholders.

“Currently, this will only apply to Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas and Gatiman train categories. For passengers who have already booked their tickets in advance, certain instructions have been given to the service provider. “, indicates the order. .

In accordance with the order, the IRCTC will inform the relevant zone railway of the exact date from which on-board catering services with cooked meals will be resumed on a particular train for journeys falling within the early booking period.

Zonal Railways will then verify the catering costs to be realized on the basis of the services provided and the list of applicable tariffs and feed them into the PRS software to allow the reservation / deactivation of catering services, from the ARP date, to the when booking tickets. .

In addition to this, zone agents are also required to notify electronic ticket passengers via SMS and email, who have already booked tickets in advance regarding the resumption of ready meals supply.

For tickets already reserved, the IRCTC will provide on its website an option to opt for catering services and payment of fees due in advance. This facility will be available for electronic tickets as well as for passengers at the counter.

For passengers who have already booked and who have not opted for the same online, cooked meals must be made available on request in the train against payment, subject to availability. On-board ticket control staff will collect catering costs due in accordance with the approved price list.
