Indian Railways resume catering services at Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express; Check out the step-by-step guide to ordering food on the train

Indian Railways has resumed catering services aboard the Vande Bharat Express between Delhi and Katra from November 28. Train catering is also offered for Sattvik certification. With Sattvik certification, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) plans to introduce services that meet the requirements of vegetarians and encourage vegan travel to sacred destinations.

Earlier this month, the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) decided to resume catering services with ready meals on high-end trains including Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Duronto, Vande Bharat, Tejas and Gatiman Express. The Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat express got back on track in July after shutting down for a month due to the outbreak of the Covid-19 pandemic.

Train number 22439 New Delhi-Katra Vande Bharat Express leaves New Delhi station at 6 a.m. to reach Katra at 2 p.m. En route, the train stops at Ambala Cantt, Ludhiana and Jammu Tawi for two minutes each. On return the same day, the number 22440 Katra-New Delhi Vande Bharat Express train leaves Katra station at 3 p.m. to reach New Delhi station at 11 p.m.

Vande Bharat is a high speed train which was introduced on February 17, 2019. The train has 16 cars, with an impressive capacity of 1,128 passengers. The Vande Bharat Express train was built as part of the central government’s “Make in India” initiative at the Integral Coach Factory in Perambur near Chennai.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during his address to the nation on the 75th Independence Day, announced that 75 Vande Bharat Express trains would be launched by August 15, 2023. “75 new Vande Bharat express trains will connect all corners of the country in 75 weeks of Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav ”, declared the Prime Minister in his speech of August 15 from the Red Fort of Delhi.

The fully air-conditioned luxury chairlift service with 16 cars is a motorless self-propelled train set that provides faster acceleration and deceleration, reducing travel time by 40%. The train has plastic bottle crushers, a spacious pantry with a freezer, revolving seats and a cattle guard, among other things.

The train boasts of having bottle crushing machines to remove plastic bottles. It also has swivel seats that can be turned 180 degrees, 16 air-conditioned cars, including two business class cars, and sensor doors that connect the cars.

The pantry has also been made more spacious. It is the first time that a freezer for storing ice cream and welcome drinks, three hot cases and two bottle coolers have also been installed in a train. Water purifiers or ROs were also installed in the train.

The train has continuous windows and the glasses have been fitted with shatterproof films. Splash films are a protective coating specially designed to protect windows from the elements and protect passengers from fragmentation.

A roller shade sunshade, which dramatically reduces glare from the sun while still letting light through, was fitted to the sight glass to protect train pilots from glare and improved insulation was provided for reduce the noise level in the driver’s cabin.

It also has windows with a special provision to protect against stone throwing and a cattle guard in the front to prevent damage to the train or derailment in the event of cattle running.

Step 3: Select the food from the list of cafes, outlets and quick service restaurants available there.

Step 4: Place the order and select the payment method. Either you can choose to pay online or cash on delivery.

Step 5: Once the order is placed, the food will be delivered to your seat / bunk.
