Haidong’s rural revitalization supported by cultural tourism
XINING, China, August 18, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — About August 7Qinghai Silk Road Flower Art Festival and Hehuang Culture and Art Festival were held in Haidong city, northwest China Qinghai Provinceaccording to the Publicity Department of CPC Haidong Municipal Committee.
In recent years, Haidong has been striving to promote the protection, inheritance and utilization of Hehuang culture to fuel the high-quality development of the cultural tourism industry.
Lyu Liuyuejie, a resident of Banyan Village in Huzhu Tu Autonomous County in Haidong City, started learning Panxiu, a type of embroidery with Tu characteristics, when she was about 10 years old.
Panxiu, a national intangible cultural heritage since 2006, is a unique traditional ethnic art of the Tu people, with more than 1,000 years of history.
“My family depended on farming for a living. We never managed to make a lot of money from it,” Lyu said. In 2015, 732 residents out of more than 1,400 in total led a relatively poor life in the village, which is home to the traditional Tu tribe.
But since 2016, the village has launched a poverty alleviation project and started developing eight separate industries simultaneously, including Panxiu, Qingke barley wine, rural tourism and farm stay.
“It’s a great job for us because we can do what we usually do and take care of our family,” Lyu said. She never imagined she could do at least 30,000 yuan a year after his embroidery.
Ma Youcai, 58, has witnessed the improvement, saying her grandchildren have easier access to primary school and there are more visitors from nearby areas.
“Our catering services, which mainly serve visitors our local cuisine, have also increased our income,” Ma said. He said the local winemaking tradition has also spread from homes to mass production, some factories built near the village selling wine online.
At the end of 2021, the annual per capita income reached 12,300 yuan and the collective income of the village reached more than 1.45 million yuan. The village of Banyan has gradually earned a reputation as a “village of opulence”.
Village members receive annual grants to help with education and care for the elderly. Many villagers have found jobs in tourism. “Our lives continue to get better every day,” Ma said.
