FAME 2022 award winners announced
The recipients of the 2022 FAME (Foodservice Achievement Management Excellence) Award have been announced.
The Golden Foodservice Director Award, FAME’s most prestigious honor, went to Roy Pistone, Director of Food and Nutrition Services for Citrus County Schools in Inverness, Florida. Pistone has spent over 27 years in the school catering industry, and in Citrus County he has been able to renovate nearly every school kitchen in the neighborhood while keeping meal prices stable. He also served as the 2020-2021 President of the Florida School Nutrition Association and helped mentor new principals and improve their school nutrition programs.
Rita Denton, director of student nutrition at the Mansfield Independent School District in Mansfield, Texas, received the Silver Leadership Award for her work in developing a new concept of coffee in the district, which is now known throughout the community. Before the pandemic, Denton worked with his team to increase breakfast attendance by 22% and lunch attendance by 18%. The team achieved this growth with only a 4% enrollment increase.
The FAME Silver Spirit Award 2022 went to Danielle Saitta, Marketing and Communications Project Manager for Fulton County School Nutrition in Atlanta. Saitta is leading marketing and communications efforts at the 97 schools in the district. She also helps Fulton County write grant proposals and secure funds for programs like alternative breakfast services and mobile kiosks.
The FAME Rising Star award went to Shannon Solomon, director of school catering at Aurora Public Schools in Aurora, Colorado. Over the past four years, Shannon has helped open three new schools in the district, managed two renovations for safety and efficiency, and completely overhauled the neighborhood restoration program. Shannon has also been featured on Food Network’s “Chopped” TV series.
The 33rd The annual FAME awards ceremony will be held virtually during the School Nutrition Conference in January. A member of Food service director the editorial team was part of the selection committee.
