Cute New Brunch, Ellie’s Baked Eggs, Opens in San Leandro

East Bay’s new breakfast has a cute name and an even cuter signature dish.

Ellie’s Baked Eggs, now open at 1865 Orchard Ave. in San Leandro, specializes in just that: individual ramekins of baked eggs with comforting additions like cheese, bacon, fresh basil and even skirt steak. Ellie’s also offers open sandwiches, salads, homemade soups, sides and pastries. The restaurant is open from 6:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. from Thursday to Tuesday.

There are five baked egg options ($9.50 to $16.50) at the cafe, where tables and chairs are bright yellow and dishes come out on stainless steel trays with black checkered paper and white.

The original baked eggs come with a cheesy bottom layer, while the BSF top is draped in bacon, spinach and feta. If you take your eggs with more animal protein, opt for the Skirt and the Chimi Top. The skirt steak is grilled over an open fire, sliced and served with a house-made chimichurri fillet. Each option comes with peewee potatoes, arugula salad, or local toast.

Other menu specialties include homemade soups, such as roasted corn chowder with honey. Foodies should opt for the cinnamon French toast, cubed and baked, of course.
