Businesses recover lost ground in pandemic – sales exceed 2019 levels

According to data from the statistical service of all companies in the economy with obligation to keep books with monthly figures, as opposed to quarterly data, the turnover in October 2021 amounted to 24.8 billion d euros, an increase of 28.5% compared to October 2020.

The turnover of all companies for the month of October climbed above the levels seen before the pandemic, as shown by data released today by the statistics office ELSTAT. For another month, the reins were taken by the accommodation and catering sectors, which recorded an impressive increase of more than 82% from levels a year ago.

According to data from the statistical service of all companies in the economy subject to the obligation to keep monthly accounts, as opposed to quarterly data, turnover in October 2021 amounted to 24.8 billion euros, an increase of 28.5% compared to October 2020, which amounted to 19.3 billion euros.

The largest increase in revenue in October 2021 compared to October 2020 was presented by accommodation and food service companies by 82.2%. The smallest increase in turnover in October 2021 compared to October 2020 was presented by companies in the field of water supply, wastewater treatment and waste management, for example 2.9%, while the largest decrease was recorded by companies in the mining and quarrying sector by 11.7%.

For companies whose activities were suspended in March 2020, for which data is available on a monthly basis, the turnover in October 2021 amounts to 1.8 billion euros, an increase of 27.6% compared to October 2020, which amounted to 1.4 billion euros.

The largest increase in revenue in October 2021 compared to October 2020 was reported by film, video and television program production, recording and music publication companies by 364.6%. The smallest increase in turnover was reported by companies in the gaming and betting sector, for example 7.5%.
