Binghamton entrepreneur named 2022 Small Business Person of the Year in upstate New York

BINGHAMTON (WBNG) — A Binghamton entrepreneur has been named the 2022 Upstate New York Small Business of the Year.

On Thursday, the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) awarded the title of recipient to Chenango Point Cycle owner Anthony Folk.

Folk bought Chenango Point Cycle in 2019 with the aim of bringing together new and experienced cyclists.

Along the way, he faced challenges such as the pandemic, labor shortages and supply chain disruptions.

Folk was selected not only for his success in growing his business, but also for his commitment to community service and building a support network for bikers across the Southern Tier.

“There are kind of three words that define the simplest idea and the first is community,” Folk said. “So, I don’t think this stuff is ever going to stop. Without building a community of people who love to ride bikes, or being involved in that community of people who love to ride bikes, there is no one who rides bikes. So for us, making sure people have a way to ride, a place to ride, and access to get there is kind of number one on our to-do list.

Folk was chosen as the recipient of the award from 34 counties.
