4 restaurants in Greater Danbury ranked best in Connecticut

In the latest Connecticut Magazine, you’ll find a list of “Connecticut’s Best Restaurants for 2021” by their readers and by their “experts.” In this article, we take a closer look at some Italian restaurants.

This is a great tool when you are looking for a new restaurant to try or don’t feel like trying your hand at a restaurant unless you know it has been recommended. This is how I discovered Newtown’s restaurant, Sal e Pepe, which is one of the top four Italian restaurants in the greater Danbury area.

** Sal e Pepe, Newtown – Reader’s Choice

I remember when the “Ethan and Lou Morning Show” celebrated Restaurant Week a few years ago and the owner and chef of Sal e Pepe brought in some outrageous samples of their menu selections. My favorite dishes on their menu are the “mussels from Maine” for the starters and for the starter, the “shrimp and scallop risotto”.

** Lucia Ristorante, New Milford – Reader’s Choice

Lucia is located on Bank Street, directly across from the Bank Street Theater. This little gem of a restaurant has everything you are looking for when going out to dine, such as a great atmosphere, delicious food and great staff. My choices are the “Calamari Lucia” aperitif and their “Seafood Paella” for dinner.

** The painted lemon, Sherman – Reader’s Choice

This new restaurant in the middle of the quaint little town of Sherman offers an extraordinary dining experience, from its old Italian recipes to its seasonal specials and impressive service. Take my advice and book. My favorite appetizer is the “Aubergine Parmigiana” and for my main course I highly recommend their “Fettuccine Bolognese!” OMG …

** La Tavola, Waterbury – The Expert’s Choice

This is the only restaurant of the four that I have not tried yet. What immediately attracted me was the dining room where you are surrounded by beautiful wine racks. If I were given a menu now, I would choose the “Handmade Ravioli” appetizer and then the “Pan Seared Diver Sea Scallops” for my starter. Enjoy your lunch!
